Different Minds Drive Progress
My Journey with RINC and Why Neuro-Inclusion Matters, by Bianca Molloy, Secretary of the Rail Industry Neuro-Inclusive Community (RINC)
When I joined the Rail Industry Neuro-Inclusive Community (RINC), I knew I was stepping into something meaningful. As someone who is neurodivergent, I’ve experienced both the challenges and the strengths that come with thinking differently. I’ve also seen how powerful it can be when workplaces embrace neurodiversity, not just in words, but in action.
RINC was created in response to growing demand from across the rail sector, under the umbrella of the Rail Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Charter. Our goal is ambitious but achievable: to help shape a rail industry that is truly neuroinclusive, where systems, processes, and cultures are designed with all minds in mind.
What is RINC?
RINC is a cross-industry working group supported by the EDI Charter and the Rail Industry Association (RIA). We bring together professionals from across the sector to share best practices, develop inclusive strategies, and advocate for meaningful change.
Our work is structured around three key components:
The RINC Working Group – where strategy is shaped and progress is coordinated.
Task and Finish Groups – small, focused teams working on communications, best practice, mentoring, and governance.
The Neuroinclusive Leads Forum – a network of organisational leads who feed back real-world challenges and opportunities from across the industry.
As Secretary, I help coordinate our meetings, support our task groups, and ensure that our work remains transparent, collaborative, and aligned with our mission
Why This Matters
It’s estimated that 20–30% of rail colleagues and passengers are neurodivergent. Yet many of our industry’s systems were built around neurotypical norms. That’s a gap we can, and must, close.
Neurodivergent individuals bring unique strengths: creativity, focus, innovation, and resilience. But too often, they face barriers to employment, progression, and belonging. RINC exists to change that. We want to make the rail industry a place where neurodivergent people feel welcome, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Our Mission and Roadmap
Our mission is to:
Promote neuroinclusive design across systems and processes.
Position rail as an employer of choice for neurodivergent talent.
Ensure neurodivergent voices are heard at the highest levels.
Support the industry in aligning with the Equality Act 2010.
Shape a long-term Neuroinclusion Strategy for the sector.
We’re taking a phased approach to this work:
Year 1: Awareness – Building understanding and visibility.
Year 2: Change – Embedding inclusive practices and leadership.
Year 3: Culture Shift – Driving deeper, lasting transformation.
