Training at TES and Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a neurodiverse condition and can affect the way the brain functions and processes information, which can lead to sensory overload.
At TES, we want to ensure that the barriers people face to access the training required are minimal as possible. We have invested in coloured overlays that can be placed over the training material and this is starting to roll them out to the learners.
How Coloured Overlays Work
Coloured overlays are transparent, tinted sheets placed over printed material. The theory behind their success is that for some individuals:
They Filter Light: The specific colour filters out certain wavelengths of light that are believed to cause the visual stress or distortions described above.
They Stabilise Text: This filtering effect can instantly stabilise the text, making the letters appear static, clear, and easier to track. This drastically reduces the visual and cognitive strain required to read.
Reduce Fatigue: By reducing visual stress, the learner can read for longer periods with less fatigue and fewer associated symptoms like headaches, thereby minimising the chance of sensory overload during training.
