Standing Against Modern Slavery: What Every TES 2000 Employee Should Know
As part of our ongoing commitment to social value, sustainability, and ethical labour practices, we are encouraging all staff to familiarise themselves with the UK Home Office’s Modern Slavery Awareness Booklet
What Is Modern Slavery?
Modern slavery is a hidden crime that affects thousands of people across the UK. It includes human trafficking, forced labour, domestic servitude, and exploitation. Victims are often vulnerable individuals who are coerced, deceived, or threatened into working under inhumane conditions.
Why It Matters to Us
As a company that champions inclusive employment, ethical procurement, and workforce wellbeing, we must remain vigilant. Our People & Culture team has already embedded ethical standards into recruitment, onboarding, and supply chain practices. But awareness is everyone’s responsibility.
Spotting the Signs
The booklet outlines key indicators of modern slavery, including:
Individuals who appear withdrawn, anxious, or fearful.
Workers who are underpaid or not paid at all.
People who are unable to leave their work environment or speak freely.
Signs of physical abuse or poor living conditions.
If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Trust your instincts and report concerns through the appropriate internal channels or the Modern Slavery Helpline.
What You Can Do
Read the Booklet: It’s a short, accessible guide that could help you identify and respond to potential cases.
Speak Up: If you suspect exploitation, report it. Silence enables abuse.
Stay Alert: Keep an eye out for signs not just in the workplace, but in everyday life; on public transport, in local businesses, or in your community.
Use Internal Resources: If you're unsure how to report concerns, contact the People & Culture team for guidance.
