Safety Courses.

Everyone home safe every day.

Your Choice.

Our Training Department offer the full range of safety courses required to work on Network Rail infrastructure. Whatever your railway profession, the safety courses for competences you need to attain and retain are here.

Tr 00 (Track Induction) (Initial)

This course is mandatory for all staff new to track engineering, with its purpose to give delegates a basic understanding of the principles of track engineering. This includes Permanent Way construction, components and work methods to enable them to work safely and efficiently. The course also includes Personal Track Safety and DCCR (see the Personal Track Safety and DCCR Course Specifications for details of this course).

PTS (Personal Track Safety) (Initial / Recert)

The PTS course is comprised of two components. There is an e-learning training package followed by a practical training day. Successful completion of the e-learning is a prerequisite for attendance of the practical day. The practical training module is designed to train persons who are undertaking Personal Track Safety responsibilities as part of their duties on Network Rail infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

DCCR (DC Conductor Rail) (Initial / Recert)

This course is designed to train persons who are required to work near or adjacent to DC conductor rails.

It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

PTS DCCR (Personal Track Safety) (Initial / Recert)

The PTS course is comprised of two components. There is an e-learning training package followed by a practical training day. Successful completion of the e-learning is a prerequisite for attendance of the practical day. The practical training module is designed to train persons who are undertaking Personal Track Safety responsibilities as part of their duties on Network Rail infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

LKT (Lookout) (Initial / Recert)

This course provides delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge that is required to undertake Lookout duties on Network Rail Infrastructure.

SW (Site Warden) (Initial / Recert)

This course provides delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge that is required to undertake Site Warden duties on Network Rail Infrastructure.

AOD HS (Hand Signaller) (Initial / Recert)

This course provides delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge that is required to undertake Hand Signalling duties on Network Rail Infrastructure.

IWA (Individual Working Alone) (Initial / Recert)

This course provides delegates with the knowledge and confidence to work alone on Network Rail’s infrastructure. This course also covers PTS re-certification.

COSS (Controller of Site Safety) (Initial / Recert)

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking Controller of Site Safety training as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

PC (Protection Controller) (Initial / Recert)

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Protection Controller competence. A Protection Controller must be appointed when a line blockage is required to be taken and shared by two or more COSSs or IWAs, highlighting the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

ES (Engineering Supervisor) (Initial / Recert)

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their sponsor to enable them to attain the Engineering Supervisor competence. The ES competence is required to be held by anyone who is required to set up and manage a worksite within an engineering possession on the rail infrastructure under the direction of a Person in Charge of a Possession (PICOP).

SSOWP (Safe System of Work Planner) (Initial / Recert)

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge and skills to complete Safe Work Pack (SWP) for staff required to work on the Network Rail Controlled Infrastructure.

It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas.
