 NATURE OF THE WORK

Newly qualified Track workers will be involved in the maintenance, repair and renewal of railway tracks throughout the region. This is a physically demanding role and applicants will need to be prepared to follow the instructions of the supervisors on site to get tasks done to a high standard, whilst maintaining safety at all times. Tasks may include shoveling, using small tools, heavy lifting etc. This is an outdoor role so applicants must be prepared to work in all weathers.

Although this is predominantly weekend work there may be opportunities to undertake additional shifts during the week, depending on work levels and demand.

LOCATION

Our work is carried out on railway infrastructure throughout the Anglia region. Transport is provided from our office in Colchester or a designated pick up point to each worksite. It is essential that candidates are able to get to the pick up point as required. Non-drivers relying on public transport will need to consider what will happen if they are rostered to work night shifts when there is no public transport service running. Reliability is essential.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS

Before candidates can be offered a place on the Track Induction Course they will need to successfully complete a Network Rail approved Medical examination and a Drugs and Alcohol screening. All candidates will also be required to provide satisfactory references from previous or current employers.

TRACK INDUCTION COURSE

The initial training for this post will last for 10 days and will consist of a combination of classroom based theory and practical on track sessions, as well as a site visit to experience the live railway environment. The course will cover a whole range of topics including: Personal Track Safety (PTS), Fire Training, Manual Handling, Emergency First Aid, a basic introduction to railway infrastructure, Track geometry, track construction and components and the safe use of tools and equipment.
